Sedation: A Guide to Patient Management, 5e Paperback

Author: Stanley F. Malamed DDS - ISBN: 0323056806 - Language: English - Format: PDF, EPUB

DESCRIPTION

Review

REVIEW OF CURRENT EDITION:

"This is the 4th edition of a popular textbook presently used by many dental schools in North America. For this edition, Dr. Malamed enlisted the help of Dr. Morris Clark, who co-authored the section on inhalational sedation, as well as Dr. Kenneth Reed, who upgraded the section on medically compromised patients. In addition to the improvements engendered by these co-authors, many of the illustrations and diagrams have been updated, and overall the new edition is superior to the third edition. The primary target audiences are pre- and post-doctoral dental students wishing to learn more about sedation and anxiety control. Increasingly, other medical practitioners such as podiatrists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and even gastroenterologists are performing office sedation and they too would find this book very useful."

An instant bestseller that is poised to become a classic, Moonwalking with Einstein recounts Joshua Foers yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top "mental athletes." He draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalists trade to transform our understanding of human memory. From the United States Memory Championship to deep within the authors own mind, this is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.

This is one of those rare books that is not only a joy to read, but also immensely helpful. It can help all of us with something that is at once troublesome and worrisome: our memory. It does this with ease, not teaching us some grueling rote memory technique, but one that is easy, natural and intuitive. Yet Moonwalking with Einstein turns out to not be exclusively a how-to book on memory. So what is it?

Well, yes, it is about memory and how to improve it, but it is at once a history of techniques, a description of what memory is and what can go wrong with it, and also a running narrative of how the author, a journalist himself with no special memory skills, becomes one of the most proficient memory athletes in America.

Id learned a mnemonic device to aid memorization decades ago while in college, and found it to be helpful, but for some reason Id abandoned the technique once I graduated. But Moonwalking with Einstein expands the mnemonic technique I learned back then by use of something of which Id never heard: the "Memory Palace." The Memory Palace exploits our inherent skill for remembering images and spatial locations, harnesses these two abilities we all posses in abundance, and relates them to the memorization of numbers, lists and assortments of other difficult to remember items. The amazing thing is that the Memory Palace not only makes memorization easy, it also makes it fun.

What makes the book so interesting is that it is narrative non-fiction and reads like a novel. The author locks his conflict with his own memory early on, gives a sense of rising tension as he accumulates the forces to overcome its limitations, and resolves this internal conflict at the end when he participates in the US Memory Championship.
"Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything" by Joshua Foer is a memoir of the authors attempted to win the U.S. memory championship. Along the way Mr. Foer attempts to explain some tricks, techniques and the science around memory.

The book follows the gripping journey taken by Joshua Foer as he participates in the U.S. Memory Championship. As a science journalist Foer becomes interested in the champions secrets as well as the secrets of the brain which we still do not fully understand.

Foer learns how to naturally memorize information with the help of experts and to master techniques which make memorization easier.

"Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything" by Joshua Foer is a fabulous memoir which is not only personal and informative, but also highly entertaining.

As a journalist, Mr. Foer became interested in those "mental athletes" who can memorize random data (order of packs of cards, long lists, etc.) when he covered the U.S. Memory Championship as an assignment. As he researched more into this area he became intrigued and wondered if he could do it also.

At the start of his research, Mr. Foer went to meet psychologist Anders Ericsson who studies those with exceptional memory. "SF" can remember 80 digits after a single hearing, for example. During Foers attempt, Ericsson would study him - a man without an exceptional memory. However, in a very poignant part of the book he also meets with a man who completely lost his short term memory.

Over the next year Foer studied hard to improve his memory, or rather improve memorizing random stuff (there is a difference as we find out). The path we find ourselves going along with Mr.

Learn your anatomical directions!

As you begin studying the structure and function of the human body, youll find that you need to be thoroughly familiar with the terminology used in anatomy to describe directions and orientation.

It may seem overwhelming at first, but its a necessary step in learning everything else in anatomy.  Its like knowing north from south and east from west when beginning a course in geography.

The Anatomy Coloring BookExtra time and effort spent to learn anatomical directions and orientation at the beginning of the course will make most of the next semester or two . . . and beyond into other courses and your career . . . go way more smoothly.  Really.  Its hard to see that now, I know.  But trust me!

Besides your learning in the lab and lecture course, and working through your textbook and lab manual, you may find this FREE mini-course to be helpful.  Its called simply Anatomical Directions and its provided as a free service from Insight Medical Academy. It requires a free registration to use the course, so be sure to register before trying to access the course.  Heres a brief video explaining how the free course works.

Pinky and the Brain

Have you ever seen the Pinky and the Brain cartoon? Heres a crazy video clip from the show sent to me by one of my favorite textbook editors, Karen Turner over at Elsevier (Mosby). It features a musical tour through the brain.

[Heres an easter egg in Anatomy & Physiology 7th ed. . . . Karen Turners photo is on p. 55]

Although this clip is funny and includes a lot of "real" anatomy terms and structures, its not very useful in understanding brain anatomy in an organized way . . . its just a jumble of random structures, jumping all around and from microscopic to macroscopic and back again. But it IS entertaining!

[The video player embedded here may not appear in your news feed or emailed newsletter. Go to The A&P Student blog to access the video viewer. ]

So why share it with you?

First, because . . . well . . . it IS entertaining.

Second, it gives me the opportunity to bring up (once again) the value of silly songs as a learning tool.

Remember my previous article Pump your blood, which featured a silly song about blood flow through the systemic and pulmonary circulation? That one was effective because it put all the essential facts together in a way that makes sense (unlike the Pinky and the Brain clip). Such songs teach not only the facts . . . but also (and this is important) how the facts fit together.

Silly songs can also be useful as mnemonic devices to remember the anatomical order of structures in the body or the members of a group of structures in the body (see Sad Pucker).

Third, Im sharing this video because even though this clip is "not very useful" in learning A&P, it is still "somewhat useful." It does show structures visually while at the same time stating the names . . . which will probably help remember where they are and what they look like.

But one must alway be careful with this sort of thing (media not really intended to be strictly educational) because there may be unintentional errors or misleading usages embedded in them. Looking for, finding, and correcting such errors can in itself be a learning experience.

For example, the clip contains several eponyms (terms that include someones name). We learned in last weeks article International standards for anatomy terminology that eponyms are "old fashioned." So the clip isnt really wrong in this regard . . . its just not up to date.

Also, near the end of the clip the term "medulla oblongata" is sung but the entire brainstem and part of the diencephalon is illustrated--not just the medulla oblongata. Ooops. There are probably several more of these that I didnt catch on casual viewing.

Of course, these mistakes only support my previously mentioned hypothesis, summarized here:

Dr. Pattons Theory of Media Science (Dr. Ps TMS) . . .which I just made up after years of mulling it over . . . and shouting it to my television screen . . . states that

"biological accuracy of a science-based fictional media production is inverse to the total budget for special effects in the production. "
Do you have other silly songs or video clips to share (accurate or not)?

Then share them with us by "commenting" on this article!

In Howard Markels "An Anatomy of Addiction," two renowned figures are attracted to "a miracle drug" that reduced appetite and the need for sleep, sharpened ones focus, relieved depression, and induced a feeling of euphoria. It also had anesthetic properties that could be useful for surgeons performing dental or ophthalmological procedures. Both Sigmund Freud, the pioneering psychoanalyst, and William Halsted, one of the greatest surgeons of his time, were fascinated by this drug and decided to try it out on themselves. As a result, both became addicted to cocaine.

Dr. Markels command of his subject is impressive; his excellent source materials include letters, journal articles, and monographs. The author provides enlightening background information about medical practice in the nineteenth century, especially in the United States and Vienna. He vividly describes Bellevue Hospital in New York City, Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, and the Allgemeines Krankenhaus in Vienna, large complexes that were bursting at the seams with both affluent and indigent patients. Young physicians-in-training flocked to these institutions to learn from more experienced and skilled medical practitioners.

It is fascinating to learn how naïve people were concerning cocaines short and long-term effects. The same could be said of opium, morphine, and laudanum, all of which were dispensed liberally to treat a host of complaints. No one understood the underlying nature of addiction. There were no "rehabs." If someone were unfortunate enough to become dependent on a drug, he or she would have a very difficult time breaking the habit. Freud and Halsted were particularly susceptible to this disease because of who they were.
Both Sigmund Freud, father of psychoanalysis, and William Halsted, originator of modern surgery, practiced medicine in the 1880s and experimented on themselves and others with cocaines possible therapeutic uses. Freud was interested in it as an antidote for morphine addiction and as treatment for addiction, Halsted saw it as a possible anesthetic. Freud found the drug cured his indigestion, dulled his aches, and relieved his depression. After taking the drug for a few months Freud shifted from his initial focus on neurology to psychology/psychiatry. Halsted became professor of surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and devised new and safer surgical techniques - while struggling with his addiction acquired experimenting.

An Anatomy of Addiction opens with a laborer being admitted to Bellevue Hospital with a serious compound fracture of the leg. Staff called upon Halsted, their best surgeon, but he had just taken a dose of cocaine. He took one look at the patient and went home to a seven-month cocaine oblivion. Meanwhile, in Europe Freud was using the drug to self-medicate his own anxieties. At the time almost 15% of prescriptions contained cocaine, there were no controlled substances, and addiction was not yet a medical diagnosis. Other users of the day included Ulysses Grant, Queen Victoria, the Shah of Peria, Thomas Edison, and Arthur Conan Doyle (also a physician).

Freuds career goals was to be appointed to a faculty position at the Vienna Medical School, and saw lab experimentation as his preferred means of getting it. His focus on cocaine was initially motivated by a desire to help a friend, Dr. Fleischl-Marxow, addicted to morphine because of the intense, chronic pain created by a non-healing amputation.

Open Bite Malocclusion

Open-Bite Malocclusion: Treatment and Stability [Paperback]

Author: Guilherme Janson Fabricio Valarelli - ISBN: 1118335988 - Language: English - Format: PDF, EPUB

DESCRIPTION

Open-Bite Malocclusion: Treatment and Stability presents the etiology, treatment, and its stability of anterior open bite malocclusion in the early, mixed, and permanent dentitions. Special emphasis is devoted to orthodontic treatment and its stability in the permanent dentition because this is the time when treatment of open bite presents greater relapse. Appropriate for clinicians, orthodontic residents, and dental students, Open-Bite Malocclusion covers the most simple treatment approaches to the most complex, from orthodontic devices to tooth extraction to surgery.

Unique to this book is the discussion of post-treatment stability. Drs. Janson and Valarelli highlight the post-treatment changes and presents strategies to increase treatment stability. This allows the clinician to be able to predict the stability probabilities when treating anterior open bite malocclusions in the permanent dentition either with or without extraction, orthodontic-surgical therapy, or with occlusal adjustment.

Echocardiogram Visualizes Heart Function

One of the best ways to learn about the heart is to watch it work.  But how can you do that, considering that if you open up the thoracic cavity, then slice open the heart, youd break it?

But biomedical science has shown us another way to see the parts of the heart and how they work.  Its called echocardiography.

Its a technique that uses the same technology as the sonograms youve seen of fetuses inside their mothers belly.  Basically, it bounces sound waves through the body and makes an image of whatever bounces back (an echo). But echocardiography is adapted specifically to the heart and its function.

Want to see echocardiography in action and better visualize heart function? Try watching this video.

The late Carl Rogers, founder of the humanistic psychology movement, revolutionized psychotherapy with his concept of "client-centered therapy." His influence has spanned decades, but that influence has become so much a part of mainstream psychology that the ingenious nature of his work has almost been forgotten. A new introduction by Peter Kramer sheds light on the significance of Dr. Rogerss work today. New discoveries in the field of psychopharmacology, especially that of the antidepressant Prozac, have spawned a quick-fix drug revolution that has obscured the psychotherapeutic relationship. As the pendulum slowly swings back toward an appreciation of the therapeutic encounter, Dr. Rogerss "client-centered therapy" becomes particularly timely and important.

I was given this book in 1973 when I was a senior in college and wished to attend graduate school in clinical psychology. The book transformed me. I went from page to page recognizing that Rogers spoke directly to me and the way I experienced my relationship with my inner self and soul. This book review is written with the purpose of encouraging others to read this masterpiece of psychological theory. ALL psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, and social workers should be intimately familiar with Rogers and his concepts.

Of all the personality theorists and practitioners of psychotherapy such as Jung, Freud, Fritz Perls, Albert Ellis, Karen Horney, Harry Stack Sullivan, Eric Fromme, and Rollo May; Carl Rogers is the one infused with optimism and a belief in the goodness of mankind. He sees human beings as capable of vast growth and creativity; able to achieve ethical and loving relationships and encounters; and achieving a healed and healthy soul that directs us toward others and the world.

Do not confuse his discription of the state of psychological health with that of William James, Clark Hull, or James B Watson. These theorists see mans natural state as homeostatic, neither alert nor asleep, neither happy nor sad. Rogers on the other hand would assert that the Buddha-like state of homeostasis is not full psychological health. Full psychological health is involvment, attachement, love, relationship, creativity, fulfillment, achievement, and goodness.

Once the reader buys into Rogers Self Theory, which posits that we are self healing, self directed, and instinctively know psychological health from psychological disease; then he posits his therapeutic model by which the therapist facilitates the process whereby a client moves toward this wholeness.
This book by Carl Rogers on client-centered therapy may lack the drama, the force or the cleverness associated with some books on other forms of psychotherapy. What it doesnt seem to lack is a quiet wisdom that flowed from Rogers many years of experience and sensitivity to his patients.

Despite some redundancy, being a collection of papers and presentations from Rogers over many years, "On Becoming A Person":

1) presents a branch of psychotherapy distinct from psychoanalysis and learning theories as well as from behaviorism, focused more on basically well people growing than on helping disturbed people get better.

2) is rooted in Rogers positive view of human nature as basically good and constructive, as he discovered in encounters with his patients. Rogers emphasis on empathic understanding, on not imposing theoretical speculations about the clients state of mind and on avoiding forceful interference would seem to avoid some of the abuses associated with some other psychotherapies.

3) presents ideas about the helping relationship that Rogers extended from psychotherapy into other areas such as education. Rogerss nondirective approach suggested to him the possibility of a progressive education free of examinations, of grades, of conclusions, and even of teachers.

4) despite its "fuzziness", Rogers does present some experimental evidence in favor of client-centered therapy as compared to those based on learning theory and behaviorism.

5) Rogers shows appreciation of the growing power of the behavioral sciences but expresses concern less this science, like other sciences, becomes manipulated by politicians to the detriment of people.

There is some interesting information on health and illness in the first half of this book, but the cultural evaluations in the second half of the book are lacking depth. The book places too much emphasis on race and too little emphasis on ethnicity. If you are looking for a book on health and wellness this may be useful, but if you want to study cultural diversity, this may not work for you. The book is definitely missing many key cultures.

Example 1: In Chapter 12, the chapter on Hispanic populations, there is a table listing the 8 regions where people identify themselves as Hispanic and the corresponding percentages of the US Hispanic population made up by each of these groups. Only two of these cultures, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans, are discussed in any depth. This oversight excludes all of the Hispanics from Central America, South America, and other smaller Hispanic populations. It does make sense to review the Mexican Culture because that culture represents the largest portion of our Hispanic population in the US. However, Central Americans make up the 2nd largest % of the US Hispanic population, whereas the Puerto Ricans make up only 9.2% of the US Hispanic population. The arbitrary inclusion and exclusion of specific cultures may raise some concern.

Example 2: In Chapter 13, the chapter on White populations, there is a table listing only 7 of the countries where people identify themselves as white and the corresponding percentages of the US white population made up by each of these groups. There are many countries with substantial populations in the US that are absent from this break down.

It is based on the vast body of knowledge which has made the mouse the model of choice when studying immunity in man. Arguably more is known about the immune system in mice than any other species except man. In large part this is due to the power of genetic engineering to delineate molecular mechanisms. In this volume we present an Overview to mouse immunology, including both the innate and adaptive immune systems, followed by 15 chapters, each dealing with a specific area of immunology in the mouse. These chapters illustrate the power of genetic engineering in dissecting each component of the immune response from the development of lymphoid tissues to signal transduction pathways in activated cells. "‘I never got a chance to be a girl,’ Kate O’Hare Palmer lamented, thirty-four years after her tour as an army nurse in Vietnam. Although proud of having served, she felt that the war she never understood had robbed her of her innocence and forced her to grow up too quickly. As depicted in a photograph taken late in her tour, long hours in the operating room exhausted her both physically and mentally. Her tired eyes and gaunt face reflected th e weariness she felt after treating countless patients, some dying, some maimed, all, like her, forever changed. Still, she learned to work harder and faster than she thought she could, to trust her nursing skills, and to live independently. She developed a way to balance the dangers and benefits of being a woman in the army and in the war. Only fourteen months long, her tour in Vietnam profoundly affected her life and her beliefs."

Such vivid personal accounts abound in historian Kara Dixon Vuic’s compelling look at the experiences of army nurses in the Vietnam War. Drawing on more than 100 interviews, Vuic allows the nurses to tell their own captivating stories, from their reasons for joining the military to the physical and emotional demands of a horrific war and postwar debates about how to commemorate their service.

Vuic also explores the gender issues that arose when a male-dominated army actively recruited and employed the services of 5,000 nurses in the midst of a growing feminist movement and a changing nursing profession. Women drawn to the army’s patriotic promise faced disturbing realities in the virtually all-male hospitals of South Vietnam. Men who joined the nurse corps ran headlong into the armys belief that women should nurse and men should fight.

Officer, Nurse, Woman brings to light the nearly forgotten contributions of brave nurses who risked their lives to bring medical care to soldiers during a terrible—and divisive—war.

This is a truly remarkable and groundbreaking book, one that will be of interest to anyone with even a passing curiosity in either military, social, or womens history. Professor Vuics careful and thoroughly researched analysis promises to be the benchmark to which all studies of women and the Vietnam War will be compared to for many years to come.

There are a number of ways that make Professor Vuics such a very important work. For one, she has examined an issue that has been neglected for far too long. Over forty years after the Womens Movement of the 1960s, there remains far too little scholarship on the role of women during wartime. It is about time that a writer and scholar with Professor Vuics knowledge and expertise examine the role of gender during the nations longest war. As Diana Carlson Evans had asked the Senate in 1988, "Who decides who America will remember?"

Another factor that makes this book a must read is Professor Vuics unique approach to her topic. Drawing on more than 100 interviews, Professor Vuic gives the reader a personal account of how women impacted the war, and vice-versa. And the stories that she relates are incredibly moving and touching. Professor Vuics study gives the reader such a wide variety of vivid and memorable recollections concerning the role of women nurses in the Vietnam War. In a war that is often reduced to statistics, Professor Vuic has provided a very human face.

Professor Vuics fascinating text is also quite timely. It is indeed quite remarkable how, thirty-five years after the end of the war, the Vietnam War remains an essential part of the American psyche.

Adipose Tissue Location In The Body

HUMAN BODY ANATOMY ORGANS :

Adipose tissue is a specialized connective tissue in the body which is the major storage of energy in the form of triglycerides deposition. Adipose is ordinarily found in mammals as two dissimilar forms such as white and brown adipose tissues. Depending upon the species of mammals the amount and location of the tissue varies. Most of the fat tissues fall under the white type which is placed in varied organs and varied parts in the body.

Adipose Tissue Location In The Body

In human beings, this tissue is found at manifold locations; it is placed beneath the skin as subcutaneous fat, surrounding internal organs as visceral fat, inside bones as bone marrow or yellow bone marrow and also in breast. Definite locations of such layers are referred to as adipocytes depots. These depots are a stockroom of adipose tissue that contains several cell types; the top ration of cells is adipocytes that contain fat droplets. Some other cells along with fibroblasts, macrophages and endothelial cells are also a part of this tissue along with a amount of tiny blood vessels. As the integument law includes the skin that accumulates in the deepest level of the subcutaneous layer, adipose tissue is formed beneath the skin and provides insulation to the body from heat and cold.

It acts as a protective padding colse to all vital organs in the body. Though its major function is to retain lipids, it also acts as the main source of energy by synthesizing lipids to fulfill the needs of the individual. Obese persons are seen with more amount of adipose in their body. Excessive tissues are seen hanging downward from the abdomen and also known as a panniculus. Sometimes to remove such fats, surgeries are needed. The abdomen has a layer of adipocytes known as visceral and intra abdominal fat. The internal fat protects stomach, liver, intestines and kidneys by forming protective layers inside the body. Breast fat is also a type of white adipose tissue that helps in formation of milk during pregnancy with help of oxytocin hormone and helps the mother to nourish the infants. In human, excess fats are accumulated in the abdominal, hip and also in the thoracic regions.

In dissimilar mammals, adipocytes are also found; in mice they are found inside the abdominal layers and cavity forming several depots inside the body. Even colse to the uterus and ovaries, it forms a layer of fat filled mass providing protection. Brown adipose tissues are densely packed mitochondria and also found in varied locations in mammals. As such tissues are good in vasuclarization, in hibernating animals they help in regulating body climatic characteristic through non-shivering thermogenesis.

Three different layers of ORBIT

  • The external layer, formed by the sclera and cornea
  • The intermediate layer, divided into two parts: anterior (iris and ciliary body) and posterior (choroid)
  • The internal layer, or the sensory part of the eye, the retina
Three chambers of fluid: Anterior chamber (between cornea and iris), Posterior chamber (between iris, zonule fibers and lens) and the Vitreous chamber (between the lens and the retina). The first two chambers are filled with aqueous humor whereas the vitreous chamber is filled with a more viscous fluid, the vitreous humor.
The sagittal section of the eye also reveals the lens which is a transparent body located behind the iris. The lens is suspended by ligaments (called zonule fibers) attached to the anterior portion of the ciliary body. The contraction or relaxation of these ligaments as a consequence of ciliary muscle actions, changes the shape of the lens, a process called accommodation that allows us to form a sharp image on the retina. Light rays are focused through the transparent cornea and lens upon the retina. The central point for image focus (the visual axis) in the human retina is the fovea. Here a maximally focussed image initiates resolution of the finest detail and direct transmission of that detail to the brain for the higher operations needed for perception. Slightly more nasally than the visual axis is the optic axis projecting closer to the optic nerve head. The optic axis is the longest sagittal distance between the front or vertex of the corna and the furthest posterior part of the eyeball. It is about the optic axis that the eye is rotated by the eye muscles. Some vertebrate retinas have instead of a fovea, another specialization of the central retina, known as an area centralis or a visual streak.

The Medulla Oblongata

The most prominent anterior features of the medulla oblongata are the medullary pyramids. They appear on the anterior surface as two vertically running rounded eminences which emerge from under the pons to become continuous with the spinal cord below. In the lowest portion of the anterior medulla, descending corticospinal (pyramidal) tract fibers cross over in the pyramidal decussation. The corticospinal tracts are often called pyramidal tracts because of the unique pyramidal shape they give to the anterior medulla as they descend into the spinal cord.
The olive is a lateral feature of the medulla. Emerging from the lateral medulla posterior to the olive in descending order are the glossopharyngeal nerves (IX), the vagus nerves (X), and the bulbar accessory nerves (XI). The hypoglossal nerves (XII) emerge from the lateral medulla anterior to the olive.
Three sulci are visible in posterior view, a single posterior median sulcus and two laterally placed posterior intermediate sulci. Two rounded eminences, the gracile tubercle (clava) and the cuneate tubercle are observed on either side of the posterior median sulcus. The fasciculus gracilis leads to the former while the fasciculus cuneatus leads to the latter. The posterior intermediate sulcus separates the fasciculus gracilis and gracile tubercle from the fasciculus cuneatus and cuneate tubercle on either side.

Human Skeleton Anatomy 10 Facts About the Human Skeleton!

HUMAN BODY ANATOMY ORGANS :

The skeleton law is what holds all together. In this article, I will share some fun trivia in relation to human skeleton anatomy and physiology.

Human Skeleton Anatomy - 10 Facts About the Human Skeleton!

  1. Babies have colse to 350 private bones, while a grown up adult has 206. The theorize for this is because many bones fuse together as we grow older. Examples are the cranium and the pelvis.

  2. The spine is in a way the base of our skeleton and anchors all other bones. It is composed of 33 small bones called vertebrae.

  3. The largest part of our skeleton is the femur, which is the upper part of our thigh, while the smallest is the stapes bone.

  4. The human skeleton account for about 20 percent of an regular sized persons total body weight.

  5. The functions of the skeleton is not only to be a framework for the body, but it also produces red and white blood cells, market minerals and protects vital organs.

  6. There are dissimilar type of bones; long bones, short bones, flat bones, irregular bones and sesamoid bones.

  7. The bones come in 2 dissimilar categories, the ageement bones(also known as dense bones), and trabecular bones(also called spongy bones). The ageement type contributes to about 80 percent of total bone mass.

  8. Joints are where two or more bones connect. There are 2 dissimilar ways of categorizing joints, by the way they connect and by mobility.

  9. In structural classification, the types of joints are fibrous joints(joined with fibrous tissue), cartilaginous joints(joined by cartilage) and synovial joints(not directly joined).

  10. By mobility, the types are called synarthrosis(little or no mobility), amphiarthrosis(slight movement) and diarthrosis(freely movable).
